First, what these two actually are

No metal. No grey gum line. Both are pure ceramic. The difference is personality.

Emax is a lithium disilicate glass-ceramic. Honestly? My baby. Light passes through it the way light passes through real enamel. It does not sit on your teeth. It becomes them. When a patient smiles and even her barkada can’t tell, that is Emax doing its quiet work.

Zirconia is the strong one. Zirconium dioxide ceramic, beautiful in its own right, and very hard to intimidate. This is for my grinders. My clenchers. My “Doc, I chew ice, sorry” patients. Hahaha, you know who you are. Zirconia does not flinch.

Why do I love Emax so much? Because it achieves the natural-looking smile. That is the entire answer. Everything else I do, the smile engineering, the shade matching, the contours and the grooves, all of it is in service of that one thing. The shade blends. So hindi halatang fake.

And that word, natural, is doing a lot of work. I studied cosmetic dentistry so that a veneer could follow the unique characteristics of your face. Not a template. Your proportions, your smile, everything in between.

How I actually choose with you

It is not a formula. It is a fitting. But roughly:

1. Front eight, healthy bite, camera-ready goals. Emax, almost every time. That “did she or didn’t she” effect is the whole point.
2. You grind, or the teeth take real force. Zirconia, for both our peace of mind. I want you sleeping well, not admiring a chipped edge.
3. Both. Completely normal. Emax on the smile line, zirconia where strength counts. Your mouth doesn’t follow a one-material rule. Neither do I.

And sometimes, this surprises people, the answer is neither. Not yet. If whitening or a small orthodontic fix gets you there, I will say so.

I also say no in the other direction. When masyado nang malaki ang sira, when the damage is too big and the tooth can no longer be restored that way, a veneer is not the honest answer. Covering it would look fine for a while and fail you later. So we talk about what the tooth actually needs first. I would rather lose a veneer case than put ceramic on a smile that didn’t need it, or on a tooth that couldn’t hold it. Promise. That is not a sales strategy. That is just how I want my own doctor to treat me.

Not everyone needs veneers. They are for the right candidate. I will tell you straight if that isn’t you.

The reveal is the reason I do this

The compliment I am secretly proudest of is that it doesn’t look like anything was done at all. Hindi halatang naka-veneers. The teeth look like they were always yours.

That is the whole test. The contours, the grooves, the color matching the rest of your teeth, the proportion to your face. All of it should read as your own smile, only better. Beauty queens tend to get noticed for very white veneers, di ba. I would rather you get noticed for nothing in particular, and just look well.
